Energy Exchange Malaysia ENEGEM
Overview
Energy Exchange Malaysia (ENEGEM) is a platform developed to support cross-border trading of renewable energy. It enables Malaysia to export excess green electricity to neighbouring countries under the Cross-Border Electricity Sales for Renewable Energy (CBES RE) initiative, approved by the Government in October 2023 with a capacity of up to 300 MW.
ENEGEM serves as the official marketplace for these transactions, allowing renewable energy to be traded in a transparent and competitive manner. The platform is operated by the Single Buyer under the oversight of the Energy Commission and leverages existing interconnection infrastructure. Its implementation is guided by the Guide for Cross-Border Electricity Sales (CBES), Third Edition released in April 2024.
The initiative is rolled out in stages. The first phase was introduced in 2024 through the Malaysia Singapore interconnection, which enabled the initial export of renewable electricity to Singapore for a one year supply period. This milestone reflects Malaysia’s progress in advancing regional energy cooperation and supporting the transition towards cleaner energy
